Hosts Eric Bueschlen and Chris Herzberg hail The Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler. This is the third try for this episode. We talk about how this story is the "hero's journey" in the apocalypse. Lauren Oya Olamina and her group escape to the north through slavery and mobs of left-over humanity at our worst. A horror show. Lauren develops her own religion based on change. She also suffers from "hyper empathy", and hypersensitivity to others' emotions. Lauren sees the apocalypse coming and studies survival skills and creates a "go bag". Your hosts contemplate what should be in their go bags. There are many references to settlements on other planets and super drugs and other futuristic marvels.
